I'm going to preface this by, "I am an artist, and a maker of things handmade" I enjoy it... and As I was mumbling to myself about how much it doesn't feel that the handmade things are getting the recognition they deserve. We (the greater we) nickle and dime artisans - forcing them to make things for "cost", we don't pay them for their time, we steal their ideas and export them, and other such shenanigans.
So how can I support that? I look at a goodly amount of things I own, and while a higher percentage than some, there is still alot of stuff in there that hands didn't make.
So, I'm starting a mission. A *sustainable* mission to only buy things that are handmade... Of course this definition is tricky, and I'll define it here. (will be clickable when I write it) I will share where I buy things and what I buy and why, and the search process I will go through to make it so.
The world is no longer a place for hand made... we operate at a different speed, at a different price point, and the handmade is usually for the folks who have expendable wealth. I have little. I have a stable job, but my salary is solidly in the mid thirties... and I'm going on this mission with that in mind. And sometimes, It may be a bit like "going without" but I just might have to.
And that won't be easy. And this blog is designed to keep me honest.
